Is a machine that has been designed and manufactured specifically to work as a DVR. the software is embedded in electronics chips on a circuit board. The operating system of a DVR is stored in the hardware, not on the hard drives. The hard disk drive is used to store the video and events.

Advantage of Stand Alone DVR

More stable and reliable since they contain fewer parts and the software is often written in basic machine code or Linux code. In general standalone DVRs also offer the benefit of being less expensive than PC based DVR.

Disadvantage of Stand Alone DVR

Cannot operate in conjunction with other specialized software such as the PC based DVR and cannot be integrated with other security systems.
